We all have important professional and regulatory responsibilities related to the responsible conduct of research. The 3 I’s Conference, centered on ethics and research integrity, is an opportunity to explore research issues thoroughly, express our commitment to the highest possible ethical standards and build upon our foundation of knowledge to ensure transparency and public trust in research. For the first time in the Northwest, the 3 I’s Conference is available through a collaboration of the Massachusetts Society for Medical Research (MSMR) and the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR).

Who should attend...

IACUC, IRB and IBC members and staff, Veterinarians, Animal Technicians, Managers and Supervisors
You will learn with your peers about the critical practices that ensure a culture of responsibility, trust and community.


Regulatory affairs and compliance oversight personnel
You will identify opportunities to more effectively enable the 3I’s committees to collaborate and protect the research enterprise.


Institutional officials
You will understand the ethical nuances of issues that impact the research community at your institution.


Scientists Veterinarians, Animal Technicians, Supervisors / Managers and Ethicists
You will collaborate with professionals who share your commitment and determination to surpass the ethical conduct of research status quo.

Continuing Education Credits

IRB professionals holding the CIP credential who wish to use credits from The 3 I’s and Bioethics: Strengthening a Culture of Commitment & Community for recertification should select general sessions targeting all conference attendees and those specifically noted for IRBs.  CCIP accepts documentation of continuing education hours when the topics fall within the CIP Body of Knowledge and the education is intended to be beyond initial, basic or fundamental level education. 30 hours are required, of which at least 15 must carry CE credits issued by a recognized accrediting body.  Appropriate hours from this conference can be used towards the 15 hours that are not required to carry CE credits.

Effective IBCs: An Introduction to the NIH Guidelines and the Oversight of Recombinant DNA Research

Effective IBCs is a half-day workshop on the history, function, and administration of Institutional Biosafety Committees delivered by expert staff from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Biotechnology Activities (OBA).

Effective IBCs will promote the professional development of those associated with IBCs, by providing an opportunity to:

• Learn about the NIH OBA and the history of IBCs
• Learn about the content of the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules
• Understand the range of responsibilities that IBCs have under the NIH Guidelines
• Network with colleagues to share ideas about best practices, resources, innovative approaches, and possible collaborations.

Effective IBCs is intended for IBC members and staff and others who have an interest in the oversight of recombinant DNA research, including research administrators, biosafety officers, regulatory affairs officers, and the members and staff of other institutional oversight committees such as Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees and Institutional Review Boards.
